If you have purchased a new home, and you notice that the water doesn't taste right or that it smells, you want to check the plumbing system and the current water softener that's in place. If there is staining on the sinks and if the water makes your clothes dingy, the problem could be caused by hard minerals, even if you have tap water. Here are a few things you want to look into so you can get to the bottom of the water problem.

Water Softening System

Get an estimate for a new water softening system for the home to help remove the hard minerals from the water. Even city water can cause an accumulation of minerals on the softening system over time, causing problems and diluting the success of the water softening system. A new system will help improve the color, taste, and smell of the water.

Home Plumbing Inspection

Have plumbers come to the property to inspect the pipes and test the water. The plumbers will look for the following problems:

  • Pipe galvanization
  • Bacteria accumulation along the inside of the pipes
  • Drain backup
  • Sewage backup

With the plumbing inspection, you will find out if the piping is causing the water to taste poorly, or if it's a problem that is coming from the water treatment plant. The plumbers can flush out the pipes and drains and clean the inside of the pipes to see if that helps clear up your water.

Faucet Filters

You can get a filter that goes on the faucet of your sink so that the water is purified before it goes into your cup to drink or before you go to brush your teeth with it. Talk with the plumbers about having these installed on all the faucets  in your home where you may consume water.

There are a lot of different problems that can cause your water to smell or taste funny, and you want to call your water treatment center to see if they are having any problems with the water in your area. The plumbing professionals will let you know after they do the home inspection if there are any pipes that need to be repaired or replaced, or if there are any major plumbing complications that could put your house in danger. As soon as you  notice the funny-tasting water you'll want to get a hold of the experts.
